Cultural History | |||||
The era before the Spaniards found their way into the Philippines, Zamboanga City then was a vast track of land and nameless. However, due to its proximity with the other islands in Southeast Asia, Zamboanga became a barter trading post among the Chinese-Malays, the native Tausugs, Subanons, Samals and the Badjaos. This barter trading took place as early as the 13th and 14th centuries. Archeological findings of pottery proves of the Chinese presence in the region. The inhabitants then were the Subanons along the river banks in the hinterlands, the Samals and Badjaos living in the coastal areas. The origin of the word Zamboanga came from the early Malays who came to settle at the tip of Zamboanga peninsula. These Malays discovered the place to be profusely blooming with flowers and called it “Jambangan” meaning “land or pot of flowers.” These Malays who built their settlements by the riverbanks were Subanons, meaning “people of the river.” Their chief, Sarangan lived with his family atop the legendary rock Mt. Pulumbato that lords over the city.
However, the early Badjaos and Samals who settled on and off the shorelines confused with the name “Jambangan” and called the place “Samboangan” instead. The name “Samboangan” appeared in the 16th Century Map of the Philippine Archipelago, was said to have derived from the native word “Sabuan” meaning a wood paddle. Zamboanga City was founded by a Spanish Mission who sailed into the southern part of the Philippines Archipelago in 1655. The group landed at Caldera Bay, a fishing village along the west coast, now known as Recodo. The Spanish settlement at Caldera later moved to the tip of the peninsula which they found to be strategically located, and a Fort was built to warned off invading natives. The Spanish-American War in the Philippines which ended at the turn of the century took a sharp change. In Zamboanga, the Federal Government of the United States built City Hall in 1905 and was completed in 1907. It became the official residence of the Military Governor of Mindanao which included Generals like Leonard O. Wood, Tasker H. Bliss, Ralph W. Hoyt and John “Black Jack” Pershing of world war 1 fame. Today, this serves as City Hall of Zamboanga City. | |||||

Me... Me... Me...
Hi! I'm Hazel Joy Jubilado Ho,
you can also call me SENG or ZEL...
I'm the 4th daughter of Mr. Irvin Diaz Ho Sr. & Myla Jubilado Ho. 16 years old and was born on January 17, 1994 in our province Zamboanga City...
I love color Yellow and likes to Eat & Sleep... I also enjoy reading books and writing short stories.
I like to listen to Jazz music and slow rock...
I'm a kind of person that can be trusted but don't Trust others easily.
Sometimes I'm a snob but usually I'm really not ...
Some say when people first see me, I look so Maldita. But when they got to know me more, most of them can say first
impression never last. :)
impression never last. :)
I came from a god-fearing family... I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters, My parents did a great job in raising us up, I really have a big family that's why it's not boring. We grew up very close and have a fear in god. They say "a family that prays together, stays together", hmm I can say it's really true. During ups and downs, my family is the best people I can count on...
I love my Family so much <3
Mr. Irvin Diaz-Ho & Mrs. Myla Jubilado-Ho
My dad is a government employee, he works really hard for us. He is the no.1 dad in the whole world. No one can ever replace the first guy that I loved. He disciplines us in a formal way, he will never embarrass us to the people around.
My mom is a house wife, the most caring, understanding and loving mom in the universe!!! She's always behind me and my siblings whenever we're down, she's the very first person who knows everything about us, our change of moods, attitudes, likes & dislikes.. etc. What makes her a perfect mom for me? She cooks yummy foods for us, a restaurant-like taste.
I haven't seen or heard my parents quarrel in front of us, maybe they have argument sometimes, but they always assure that we can't see or hear any fights between them.
These are my siblings. We are all 6.
Hendrix Bingford, the one wearing green shirt, is the eldest. He's a very perfectionist brother, but, most of time he makes us all laugh.
Henriette, the girl wearing blue, is the 2nd child. A very responsible sister, she's always there for her little siblings.
Irvin Jr., the long haired guy, is the third child. Very strict in terms of cleanliness.
Harrian, guy in the middle, is the fifth child. The heartthrob of the family.
and Bea Marie, little girl wearing pink, is the youngest child. The spoiled brat of the family, but, she always makes our day better.
I LOVE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. We are all close with each other. We have different attitudes, but, we can always understand each other.

but do you know what keeps me holding on?.
it's when i see those professional people and realizes that,
if they were able to survived life's hell, then how much more i could?
we shouldn't make our parents down, they brought us up..
.. life is not in a hurry, someday we'll just find ourselves at the right place and on the right time.
just remember that GOD didn't do it all in one day..
